Joseph Schooling swam his way to his third individual medal for the nation at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, on Thursday evening at the Munhak Park Tae-Hwan Aquatics Center. The 19-year-old finished second in the Men’s 50m Butterfly event, clocking a time of 23:70 sec to clinch the silver medal.
The butterfly specialist finished behind China’s Shi Yang, who set an Asian Games record of 23:46 sec, and ahead of Japan’s Yang Jungdoo who took home bronze with a time of 23:79 sec.
Schooling’s coach, Sergio Lopez, was impressed with his sizzling performance. “Today, Joseph Schooling finished his individual events with a bang. Three medals in his first Asian Games is an impressive accomplishment. He should be very proud of the pride that he has brought to the people of Singapore.”
Satisfied with his maiden outing at the Games, Schooling said: “I’m happy to have won these medals at my first Asian Games. This gives me the confidence to do better and to train harder for future meets.”
The Women’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay Team consisting of Tao Li (Backstroke), Samantha Yeo (Breaststroke), Quah Ting Wen (Butterfly) and Amanda Lim (Freestyle), were one spot away from bronze and produced a timing of 4:11:77. The strong quartet took fourth place. In the Men’s 100m Freestyle, Clement Lim achieved a personal best of 50:61 sec.
