Trio lead Queenstown Water Polo Club to victory in the first game of Matchday 3 of the TYR Singapore National Water Polo League 2018 on Saturday, 6 October at Our Tampines Hub.
Koh Jian Ying, Peter Zien and Jadranko Dovic shared the goals among themselves as Queenstown defeated Singapore Water Polo Youth 10-8.
Queenstown came into the game buoyed by their first win last week over Great White Aquatic and were looking to make it two wins on the trot. The Youths, having drawn their opening game and losing to Pacer last week, were in search of their first 3 points of the season.
It was a close affair straight from the first whistle, with both sides trading goals and Queenstown only going into the half time break 4-2 ahead.
However, two quick fire goals by Loh Zhi Zhi early in the 3rd quarter saw the Youths claw their way back to 4-4. Both teams then traded goals with each other, and Queenstown held a comfortable 9-7 lead early in the 4th quarter. But Sean Ang had other ideas when he narrowed the deficit to 1 and the Youths sensed a comeback.
Immediately though, Queenstown captain Dovic put those hopes of a comeback to rest and sealed the win after good interplay between him, Zien and Koh.
Both sides defences came up big in the final 3 minutes of the game and neither side added to the final tally of 10-8.
Final Score: Queenstown 10 SWP Youth 8
Queenstown Goals: Koh Jian Ying (4), Peter Zien and Jadranko Dovic (3)
SWP Youth Goals: Loh Zhi Zhi (3), Sean Ang, Hendric Lui, Benedict Wong, Marc Chew, Darren Ng
Man of the Match: Trevor Pang (SWP Youth) - the youngster showed again why he is so highly rated with at least 6 big saves and keeping his side in the game. Aegir 12 Pacer 10
Aegir Water Polo Club continued their winning start to the season when they beat Pacer Water Polo Academy in the Toa Payoh Derby in the second match of matchday 3 of the TYR Singapore National Water Polo League 2018.
The 12-10 victory made it 3 wins out of 3 for Aegir, while Pacer suffered their first loss of the season.
On show were the league’s top two goalscorers, Pacer’s Yip Yang and Aegir’s Paul Tan, and although Yip won the battle with 5 goals to Paul’s one, it was not enough to help his side to victory.
Aegir started strong and like their previous two matches, raced out to an early lead, ending the first quarter 6-2 ahead. It was a much more even second quarter, as both teams traded goals, but Aegir still held the advantage at half time 9-4.
Then Pacer did what Pacer has done the past two games, as they started to mount a fight back, and goals by Yip Yang, Jayden See and Ang Wan Loong left them trailing by just a goal with less than 2 minutes to play in the game.
However, the Aegir defence held firm and they earned a penalty with 5 seconds left in the game which Marcus Goh put away emphatically to seal the victory.
Final Score: Aegir 12 Pacer 10
Aegir Goals: Bryan Ong (5), James Myburgh (2), Paul Tan, Yu Junjie, Jerome Lau, Ng Chen Kai, Daryl Ho, Marcus Goh
Pacer Goals: Yip Yang (5), Ang Wan Loong (2), Ang An Jun, Lim Wen Bin, Jayden See
Man of the Match: Darren Lee (Pacer) - Kept his side in the game with some big saves and played a part in the Pacer fight back with his quick releases.
The final game of matchday 3 of the TYR Singapore National Water Polo League 2018 on Saturday saw two teams who were still in search for their first win of the season.
Aquatic Masters Water Polo, with a draw and a loss, faced winless Great White Sports Pte Ltd, and it was Aquatic Masters that got their first 3 points, with a 14-8 win, with Yip Ren Kai instrumental in the victory.
The former national skipper scored a hat-trick and came up big many times in defence, as Aquatic Masters finally found their groove.
The match played out as it should have- both teams needing a win, and both teams coming out all guns blazing. The Lee Cheng Kang and Chiam Kun Yang combination for Great White saw both teams go into the first quarter level at 3-3.
The second quarter carried on from the first, with both sides trading goals, but Chow Jing-Lun's brace saw Aquatic Masters take a 7-5 lead at halftime.
It was all Aquatic Masters in the second half as they never relinquished that lead, with goals in the final 2 quarters by Jing Lun, Ren Kai, He Ruiqiang and Fu Chuan Yu giving them a comfortable victory.
Final Score: Aquatic Masters 14 Great White Aquatic 8
Aquatic Masters Goals: Chow Jing Lun (4), Yip Ren Kai (3), Fu Chuan Yu, Glen Lin, He Ruiqiang (all 2), Luo Nan
Great White Aquatic Goals: Wynn Chan (3), Chiam Kun Yang, Lee Cheng Kang (both 2), Victor Koh
Man of the Match: Yip Ren Kai (Aquatic Masters) - The former national skipper had a superb game, doing his job defensively and chipping in with a hattrick.
