SSA, NEO Garden and SG Cares Bring New Year Joy to families
Jan

SINGAPORE
,
9 JANUARY 2021
– The Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) today gave a gift of Curry Bombs to 500 families within the SG Cares Volunteer Centres and community partner networks as part of the association’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
Working together with SSA’s Official Food and Beverage partner, Neo Garden Catering, and Ministry for Culture, Community and Youth’s (MCCY) SG Cares Office, more than 180 volunteers including national athletes from artistic swimming, diving, swimming, and water polo, national coaches, technical officials, parents and affiliates fanned across the island to varied locations such as Ang Mo Kio, Jalan Tenteram, North Bridge Road, Sin Ming, Tampines, Toa Payoh and Yishun during lunchtime to deliver Curry Bombs to these families.
Joining the volunteers in Yishun was Mr Eric Chua, Parliamentary Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Social and Family Development, who distributed Curry Bombs together with Mr Lee Kok Choy, President of SSA and Mr Jeffrey Liew, Executive Director of Neo Group to elderly beneficiaries from TOUCH Senior Activity Centre.
“A big thank you to the Singapore Swimming Association and Neo Garden for taking the lead in this project. I am also grateful for the many volunteers from our SG Cares Volunteer Centres, who have joined us in serving vulnerable Singaporeans. This initiative is clearly a demonstration of our kampong spirit; different organisations coming together to ‘pay it forward’. In spite of these trying times, let’s continue to grow the spirit of SG Cares for a better Singapore tomorrow!” said Mr Chua.
Other recipients of the Curry Bombs today included families and seniors from organisations such as AMKFSC Community Services, Care Corner FSC, Peace-Connect, and Whampoa FSC. A further 500 curry bombs will be delivered to other organisations by the end of January.
National swimmer, Jonathan Tan, who was among the volunteers in Yishun, said “I am very proud to be part of such a meaningful event. We should always lend a helping hand to those in need and I am grateful for the opportunity that SSA has given us to give back to the community. Hopefully this small gesture will go a long way in helping those in need and help build a more gracious society.”
Mr Neo Kah Kiat, Chairman, Founder and CEO of Neo Group said, “We at Neo Garden are always delighted to be able to give back to the community. This event is especially meaningful as every Curry Bomb sold helps three groups of people, SSA, ST Pocket Fund and the residents who are gifted with the donated Curry Bomb. I would like to thank all donors and volunteers who have generously contributed their time and money to this event.”
This was the second food distribution event by SSA and Neo Garden as part of the Neo Garden “Curry Bomb For A Good Cause” Campaign. Previously, the SSA’s Men’s and Women’s National Water Polo teams partnered with Marine Parade Cluster, to distribute 200 Curry Bombs to families within the Kembangan-Chai Chee and Braddell Heights Constituencies together with Speaker of Parliament, Tan Chuan-Jin and Member of Parliament, Mr Seah Kian Peng.
The Neo Garden “Curry Bomb For A Good Cause” Campaign was launched in October 2020 and aims to sell 30,000 Curry Bombs for charity. To date, a total of 24603 Curry Bombs have been sold. All proceeds from the sale of these Curry Bombs will go to the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and the SSA’s One Team Singapore Fund.
